Chapter Thirteen

There is no wilderness like a life without friends; friendship multiplies blessings and minimizes misfortunes; it is a unique remedy against adversity, and soothes the soul.

-Baltasar Gracian-

Angelina laid her folded hands on the table and looked at me. “The wars that rage everyday in the hearts, minds, and hands of humanity are due to the illusion that we are separate from each another and creation. We see the surface of reality and call it the whole. Our perceptions create our beliefs which open and close us to what we can receive. The conditioned limitations we place on ourselves and each other are the grand illusion, Michael. Our lives change when we wake up to the underlying truth that we are ultimately all One. Walking in the middle of a forest at midnight looks, feels, and sounds very different from walking in the same forest at noon.

I nodded and said, “Last night when I walked into this room and met you I had absolutely no idea who you were and how we were connected. I’m in awe at how much my perceptions have changed in the last twenty-two hours. I’m here to help you and your family in any way I am directed. I’m only beginning to know how much I don’t know and want to embrace that uncertainty. Will and I didn’t talk much about the intimacies of our families. I’ve known about you, Clare, Atom, and Gloria only in the abstract. To meet you in person and under these circumstances is a bit overwhelming and confusing. These last days must have been difficult for you.”

Angelina looked down at her hands for a moment then looked back up at me. “Will’s departure wasn’t as sudden as it appears and I must tell you that I knew you were on your way. I knew who you were when you walked in the door last night. We live a very different life out here Michael. It’s set apart from many of the day to day dramas that distract the rest of the world. The common union with creation and the cosmic order is more apparent here than it is in the order most people have created. There’s a different spacial and energy alignment away from the fray. It’s our calling to be here doing what we are, just as it is other people’s calling to work for the Company out in the world. We all function in our specially appointed ways. Some of us simply have more awareness of who we are and why we’re here than others. Our need is to provide more fertile environments in which people can consciously evolve and co-create with intention. We need to more fully awaken to who we already are, wouldn’t you agree?”

I nodded in agreement. “It’s simply about remembering to remember.” Angelina paused to smile as she said those three words I’d heard so many times since I’d arrived. “As a species, we’re beginning to wake up to what’s been experienced and taught by the few for thousands of years. We’re now at a critical stage in our planetary history for this revolutionary or evolutionary change to speed up and take place for the many. We at Sunnyview are part of the vanguard of that unfolding movement and that’s why you are now here.”

“So I’m here to help you and you’re here to help me?”

“Exactly. When everyone understands this and aligns with the natural order of things we’ll see what has been called heaven on earth. We’re here to awaken the consciousness of humanity to what’s already here. The energy needed to awaken the collective has to reach a critical mass for the quantum leap to take place into the next altitude of consciousness. You, Will, and I, like many others, have been working on this since before we were born. We are now, more than ever before in the history of humankind, coming together in response to this critical mass of creative energy. It is happening and will continue to happen in our lifetimes and beyond. We and our children and their children are bridge generations. That’s why we’re together here at this time.

“We experienced the outpouring of this energy at the end of World War Two, in the fifties, sixties, and seventies in massive new ways. In the eighties, nineties, and the past ten years we internalized it to do the important individual work of deepening. People followed their personal trajectories, did their work, and forgot the collective. The incremental adjustments and course corrections took place, the world changed, and the evolution continued without much attention. The adjustments and corrections were subtle transformations of darkness and light in classrooms, laboratories, churches, mosques, temples, factories, offices, homes, board rooms, retreat centers, associations, and in millions of hearts and minds around the globe. That effort now needs to be brought into the collective consciousness in new ways for this emergence to more fully take place. We Boomers, our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, are the generations positioned to make this quantum leap for humanity.” Angelina paused.“Are you still with me, Michael?”

“Yes, please continue, I’m fascinated by what you’re saying.”

“It’s time to consciously connect with the alignment we’ve felt all along. It’s time to bring the dispersed community of humanity back to the garden of conscious creation for the Great Unfolding. That’s our assignment. It’s time to more fully wake up to our interconnectedness, our destiny, our sacred unity with all that is, has been, and will be. Everything that’s needed to assist this birthing is in place except the necessary convergence of energies in the field. That’s where you come in. What does the Reverend Doctor Michael Jacob Wyman Ph.D., D.Min., have to say about this?”

Angelina’s enthusiasm was contagious. I was ready to jump up and hold every hand in the world if I had to. What she was telling me made so much sense as I could feel the changes she spoke of happening inside me already. I didn’t know what I could say to match her inspirational harangue, so I settled on a wide smile and said, “That’s what friends are for!” feeling like the Cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland. Angelina smiled cautiously, trying to figure out where I was coming from. I stopped laughing and took a deep breath.

“Look, Angelina, this great turning or unfolding, as you call it, sounds great but it’s just another movie. This can’t be a realistic mission. I’m not trying to be irreverent or condescending, but there are seven billion people on the planet and you think a few thousand or even a few million of us can cause a change that hasn’t happened since the beginning of time? I know that some have been working on the fulfillment of this dream for a lifetime and even longer, but it’s getting worse, not better. Do you get the news out here? I’m talking about wars, rising domestic violence, divorce, homelessness, economic disaster, famine, ecological destruction, denial, fear, greed, authoritarianism, rampant narcissism, extraordinary indebtedness, market collapse, educational illiteracy, pandemics, addictions, depression, mistrust, racism, sexism, nihilism, militarism; you name it, these things are in every corner of the globe. Five of the most notable scientists in the world die mysteriously in a rogue storm and this is where I come in? Do you have the white horse and cowboy hat waiting for me so I can ride in, take out all the bad guys, rescue the damsels in distress, and live happily ever after?

“Where is this grand unfolding, this new convergence? What do you know that I don’t know that brings you to these conclusions? Listen, I’m a lowly professor in the middle of the country that’s just waking up from the seventies. I’m not sure we’ve come much further than that. Globally our institutions are so bogged down with bureaucratic ineptitude, greed, self indulgence, and outdated thinking that it’s a wonder anyone finds their way. I’m sorry, but my hopes seem to have turned into pragmatism and border on pessimism.”

I sat back to catch my breath, scratched my head, and reflect on the craziness of the situation.

Angelina now had the smile of the Cheshire cat on her face while I ranted like the Mad Hatter. Unruffled by my brief tirade she patiently sat in a radiant energy of understanding before she spoke.
